Thanks to focus-fen.net for providing us with the big news coming out of The Dnevnik Daily Sofia today, in that the local PC market is significantly on the rise in Bulgaria – seeing an annual growth of 53.7% in the 2nd quarter of 2008.
With laptops outselling desktops both in terms of value and sales volume, the newest trend on the laptop market is the rising demand for ultra-portable devices from the bottom to the top of the price range.
And it would seem that Toshiba was the best-selling laptop brand in the second quarter, with 23.8% of the Bulgarian market purchasing from our sponsors, followed by HP with 10.4%. Whether this Eastern European market growth will sustain, or be a quick flash in the pan liable to quickly subside, we shall see.
Vor kurzen berichteten wir euch von der Toshiba Kooperation mit Sony zur Entwicklung der TransferJet Technologie und jetzt gibt es eine weitere Kooperation.
Diesmal geht es um eine weitere Zukunftstechnik: OLED (organische Leuchtdioden).
Toshiba und Matsushita, die zu Panasonic gehören, planen gemeinsam ein Werk in Japan zubauen und wollen ab Herbst 2009 dort OLED Displays für Handys herzustellen. Laut magnus.de sollen 1 Million Displays pro Monat produziert werden, laut zdnet.de und golem.de sind es aber “nur” eine Million im Jahr, was auch ein bisschen realistischer erscheint.
Zu Beginn sollen vorallem 2,5″ Displays produziert werden, die uns hoffentlich auf Grund ihrer Energiesparsamkeit mit noch ausdauernderen Endgeräte versorgen werden. Außerdem wird bei dem Projekt viel an Entwicklungsarbeit geleistet um zukünftig auch größere Displays produzieren zu können.

Bien noté dans le dernier rapport de Greenpeace , Toshiba annonce la création d’un centre de recherche dédié à l’amélioration écologique de ses futurs produits et technologies. Il s’associe pour cela avec l’université Tsinghua de Pékin.
Les recherches porteront sur sept domaines dont la plupart sont directement liées aux sujets couverts par le concept de green IT :
- élévation des performances énergétiques des appareils électriques,
- nouveaux matériaux pour réduire la consommation d’énergie,
- mise au point de systèmes d’alimentation électrique des appareils plus écologiques,
- réduction des rejets polluants,
- allongement de la durée de vie des appareils électriques,
- technologies de lutte contre le réchauffement climatique,
- outils de surveillance de la qualité de l’eau.
« Les résultats de ces recherches communes seront exploités par Toshiba pour développer des produits plus écologiques. D’autre part, ils seront aussi utiles à la Chine pour la préservation de l’environnement » indique le groupe japonais.

Back when I was a lad, £200 wouldn’t buy you a 16-bit console and 2 games, and one would have to dip very deep to buy anything approaching a remotely usable PC. But luckily those days are long gone, and this pocket-lint.co.uk review of the Toshiba L300 does much to remind us of that.

Eine weitere gut (englischsprachige) Seite auf die verlinkt wurde ist gizmodo.com, dort ist zu lesen, dass der Preis zwischen je nach Ausstattung zwischen 1550 und 3500 US-Dollar liegen wird.

It’s great to see that JoeB, who has featured on the talkToshiba site twice previously, still remembers us. He reviewed a Qosmio back in April and then a couple of days later reviewed the pre-bundled software that comes with a Toshiba. He’s now put up a mini post about being featured on our blog roll with the headline ‘Famous Online!’ and mentioned that it’s “nice to have some publicity, especially from there”. Gestern wurde durch eine Pressmitteilung bekannt gegeben, dass ein Konsortium gegründet wurde, um die neue TransferJet Technik mit einem einheitlichen Standard auszurüsten und zu vermarkten.
Transferjet wurde im Januar 2008 von Sony auf der CES in Las Vegas vorgestellt und soll über über extrem kurze Distanzen eine “WLAN” aufbauen und so ein ultra schnellen Datentransfer ohne Berührung ermöglichen. Mit einer angepeilten Leistung von 560 Mbit/s, ist es sogar ein bisschen schneller als USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/s).
Es soll die Vorteile von USB und WLAN vereinen. Zum einen sind die Daten auf Grund der geringen Sendereichweite von rund 3 cm praktisch nicht abzufangen und zum anderen ist es sehr schnell und man kann sich die Kabel sparen.
Im Konsortium sind neben Sony noch Toshiba und viele Kamerahersteller vereinigt. Da zeigt sich auch schon eine mögliche Anwendung: Ganz einfach Fotos mit anderen Digitalkameras austauschen oder die Digicam einfach neben den Fernseher stellen und schon kann die Fotoshow losgehen.
Bis jetzt gibt es außer den Referenz-Geräte noch keine Endgeräte, die das Format unterstützen, aber mit der Gründung des Konsortium wird es jetzt hoffentlich nicht mehr lange dauern bis die Technik ausgereift ist.
Laut der computerwoche.de kann es für Deutschland, aber noch ein Problem geben: “Die von TransferJet genutzte Übertragungsfrequenz von 4,48 GHz ist bislang für militärische Funkanwendungen reserviert.”
