Site of the week - www.machinesgobing.com
So – with lack of any inspiring signs of what best to call this talkToshiba feature – we’ve gone for ‘site of the week’, where we will briefly interview the figure behind some of our favourite presences within the space. This week ladies and gentlemen, meet Stephen Mulligan! He is ‘http://www.machinesthatgobing.com’ – and here are his thoughts on life, Toshiba and everything.
1.) In 50 words or less, tell us exactly what your blog ‘does’
Machinesthatgobing.com is aimed at the technically curious. It covers a range of product types from Apple computers to mobile phones to home theatre systems with emphasis on products that command visual appeal. I hope I set out the information in a way that is easy to digest and navigate.
2.) Where did the inspiration for the name come about?
As you know, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to acquire domain names with just the name you want whether it’s for SEO or just to have a name that’s memorable so something like gadgets.com wasn’t possible. I didn’t want to come up with a phrase strung together with dashes ‘cos they just look naff! I’m increasingly going for catch-phrases as a way of creating a memorable short name for a site and Machines that go Bing describes pretty well the products I’m covering as well as appealing to comedy fans of a certain age!
3.) Is there any piece on Toshiba kit that has caught your eye recently?
On the 1st of July I reviewed the Qosmio G40 which overall I liked very much indeed. I think that if I was in the market for a new PC laptop I would go for the current version, the Qosmio G50 with its 18.4 inch widescreen, 500GB storage and quad-core HD processor.
4.) If there was one site you would love to recommend to our readers, what would it be
At the risk of being accused of self-promotion I would like to recommend gadgets.jpegradar.com. This is a tool I built and use to scan the net for gadget stories which are then displayed visually on a timeline. I can scan a whole day’s worth of stories in seconds but as it auto-updates I usually I just leave it running under a separate tab in my browser and check it every half hour or so.
