Two sexy new Portégé’s hit the streets

Earlier this week we covered Pocketlint’s review of Toshiba’s first foray into the competitive netbook market with the new NB100, which according to Toshiba is aimed at “schoolchildren, senior citizens, and mobile workers who do not require the processor power or range of functions of a full-sized laptop”.

Hot on the heels of this news also comes the announcement, that two more offerings, this time targeted at the business-end of the market, are about to hit the streets. The Portégé A600 and Portégé R600 are both 12.1-inch models and contain more features and higher-end specs than the NB100.

The A600 is the weightier of the two coming in at 1.46kg, runs on Intel’s Centrino 2 processor and comes with 3GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. In contrast the high-end R600 is targeted at “style-conscious business users” and weighs in at just 979g. Also running Intel’s Centrino 2 processor it features a 128GB solid state disk (SSD). Both come with spill-resistant keyboards and fingerprint readers as standard.

Une jolie publicité réalisée pour les téléviseurs Toshiba, une sorte de montage vidéo très particulier, reprenant un peu le concept du film Matrix, avec une caméra qui tourne à 360° autour des figurants. Le making-of de la création de cette vidéo est également très bien fait.

The Matrix comparisons aside, the debut of the new Toshiba commercial ‘Time Sculpture’ has been causing quite a buzz across Social Media.

Using a progression of the ‘bullet time’ technique made famous by the aforementioned blockbuster and filmed using 200 Gigashot camcorders arranged on a special rig recording a massive 20 terabytes of data which took over 336 continuous hours to process, a number of bloggers have commented just how cool the whole things looks.

If you’ve not seen it yet you can do so here. Although equally watchable is “The Making of Toshiba Timesculpture” which provides an interesting insight into exactly how the whole thing was put together with interviews with the team behind the ad.

Hilfe gesucht: Notebookkauf um die 700€

C hip-Forum gibt es mal wieder einen Hilfesuchenden: “Black/Yellow”.

Er scheint schon seit langem nach einem geeigneten Notebook für sich zu suchen und hat sich jetzt schon zwei Favoriten rausgepickt.

Belinea o.book5 oder Toshiba Satellite L350-16X mit Face Recognition!!

Beide kosten 699€, aber bis jetzt hat im noch keiner geholfen bei dieser Entscheidung. Also wenn jemand eine Meinung dazu hat oder mit der Face Recognition Funktion Erfahrungen hat, dann schreibt doch bitte hier mal ins Forum. Vielen Dank!

Hinweis für alle NB 100 Besitzer

Ulenz hat sich ein Toshiba NB 100-10X mit Linux Betriebssystem gekauft und es lief auch alle super. Aber “nach dem gestrigen Online-Update mit ca. 120 Updates funktionierte der Sound nicht mehr”.

Das ist natürlich ziemlich ärgerlich, besonders da vorher keine Fehler festzustellen waren. Deshalb erstmal von mir der Tipp an alle NB 100 Besitzer: Vielleicht einfach ein bisschen warten, bis der Fehler ausgebügelt ist, und das Problem im Auge behalten. Ulenzs Bericht und bald bestimmt auch ein paar Reaktionen zum Thema findet ihr hier.

Für alle die schon das Problem haben: Im englischen Toshiba Support Forum wird darüber auch schon diskutiert und der Fehler scheint schon so gut wie gefunden zu sein.

“I’d just wait for the next update, they’re normally quite frequent.”

Also keinen Stress machen, sondern positiv denken einfach mal die Ruhe genießen.

Pocketlint reviews the Toshiba NB100-11R notebook

It’s been just about a month since we covered the unveiling of Toshiba’s NB100-11R at Toshiba’s first ever Mobility Conference in Zurich and Stephen Patrick over at Pocketlint has just posted an indepth review of the notebook.

Describing the release as “better later than never” he reckons it’s a vast improvement over the “toy-like” mini-notebook pioneer Eee and its compatriots, looking more like “a bona-fida miniature laptop.” He describes this as being partly due to the lack of “thick and unsightly bezels” often found on the NB100’s competitors whose own display makes the most of the available real estate by stretching as close to the edge as possible.

He’s also smitten with the Toshiba-tweaked version of Ubuntu which he says provides “a comprehensive suite of built-in applications all compatible with the software you’re already accustomed to. PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files can all be accessed with ease, and it represents huge value for money in comparison to the more expensive XP model”.

His verdict? “With its mini-me styling, comprehensive software suite and easy to use operating system, it’s impossible to dislike the NB100…some users will definitely find the small keyboard too cramped. Other than that, it’s an excellent effort, and one that comes highly recommended.”

Bald ist Wochenende und da gibt es heute mal ein echten Augenschmaus: Das neue Werbevideo von Toshiba. Ich will dazu auch nicht viel sagen, außer dass 200 Camcorder und 2,5 Millionen Einzelbildern echt beeindrucken können.

Da es schon auf dem englischen Teil von talkToshiba vorgestellt, wollte ich es eigentlich nicht nochmal bringen, aber nachdem es auf drei Blogs gelobt wurde konnte einfach nicht anders.

Le Toshiba Satellite A300-1IO : Robuste, design et conçu pour la famille

Avec ce modèle 15 pouces, à la coque noire laquée, Toshiba démontre qu’il peut aussi fabriquer des PC portables tape-à-l’œil. Il joue même la carte de l’innovation avec un système de reconnaissance faciale qui permet de démarrer le PC en se plaçant devant l’objectif de la webcam. Passé cette fonction gadget, on retient l’équipement sans faille avec la dernière puce Intel, un Penryn à 2,2 GHz, 3 Go de mémoire vive, un disque dur de 250 Go et une Radeon Mobility avec 256 Mo dédiés pour la partie affichage.

Difficile d’ailleurs de prendre en défaut ce modèle puisque le reste est du même acabit avec un graveur de DVD double couche, un connecteur HDMI, du Wi-Fi –n ou encore une prise e-SATA pour accueillir un disque dur externe. Au final, une vraie machine polyvalente dont le look est un indéniable plus.
