Product Reviews has done as its name suggests and given the Satellite L305-S5891 laptop a jolly good look, and informed readers on the findings.

So what can you expect to get from the L305-S5891? Well, there is “a powerful dual-core processor and 2GB of DDR2 system memory to help with multitasking” and “a DVD SuperMulti drive with Labelflash technology”. All impressive stuff.

The only downside they make a point of mentioning is that while the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M “will get most jobs done … it’s not ideal for gamers thanks to sharing the main system memory.” All in all though, for a laptop around the £430 mark, the Satellite L305-S5891 is definitely an option.

Morgen beginnt die IFA in Berlin und was Toshiba für die Messe geplant hat, das wurde auf flimmerkisten.de schon einmal sehr schön zusammengefasst.

Wenn ihr häufig bei uns mal vorbei schaut, dann habt ihr mit Sicherheit schon von einigen Neuheiten gehört, z.B. von der “technologischen Innovation im Bereich DVD”, womit sicher die XDE-Technologie gemeint ist. Auch bei den Laptop-Highlights sind das Qosmio X300, das F50 und das G50 keine Unbekannten mehr, aber mit Sicherheit wird es auch da noch einiges Neues geben.

Außerdem ist auch die Präsentation einer neuen LCD-TV-Serien mit FullHD-Auflösungen und des „leichtesten Projektor der Welt“ geplant. Heute früh kam ganz frisch von magnus.de die Nachricht, dass Toshiba im September eine Laser-Spielemaus und Unterlage auf den Markt bringen will. Vielleicht gibt es die ja auch zu sehen. Was es, laut colorfoto.de, mit Sicherheit zu sehen gibt sind die neuen schicken und robusten Festplatten von Toshiba.

Der Toshiba XD-E500 spielt DVDs ab und er macht sie besser als sie sind. Das ist die Kurzform von dem was die neue XDE-Technologie (eXtended Detail Enhancement) verspricht, mit der Toshiba normale DVDs ordentliche aufpolieren und auf das HD-Format 1920 x 1080 Pixel bringen will.

Als Konkurrenzprodukt zu Blu-ray sollen die XDE-Geräte jedoch nicht gesehen werden. Daher gibt sich das Unternehmen bei Vergleichen äußerst zurückhaltend. “Wer Blu-ray haben will, soll Blu-ray kaufen. Unsere Technologie dient dazu, die Wiedergabe von Standard-DVDs zu verbessern”, stellt ein Toshiba-Sprecher klar.

Bei einer Demonstration vor US-Journalisten konnte die Technologie durchaus Anerkennung ernten. Vor allem im Vergleich zu aktuellen DVD-Playern sei das Bild deutlich besser. 

Auch tweakpc.de merkt an, dass Toshiba bei ihren Flaggschiff HD-DVD-Player schon gezeigt haben, dass gutes Upscaling von DVDs möglich ist.

Der Player soll ab September für rund 150$ in den USA zu haben sein, für Europa sind ähnliche Modelle geplant. Wir dürfen also gespannt sein, was uns da noch erwartet.

Pouncing on the new DVD Download DL logo that was recently approved by the Toshiba led DVD forum committee meeting, presenter Katie Scott gives us her thoughts on what this could mean for the DVD/Blu-ray market. We’re keeping tight-lipped, but her speculation leads to plenty of interesting questions.

Steve from Machines That Go Bing has posted an in-depth review of the Toshiba Qosmio G40, testing to see how it “stacks up as a games machine as will as a media box.” He first gives an overview of the G40 specs, writing that he suspects “the 250GB hard disk will fill up very quickly”, after which he gives his first impression of the notebook.

Though Steve finds the lack of numeric keypad an annoyance and dislikes that the blue lights remain on when watching a DVD (he likes watching films in the dark for a bit of atmosphere), he finds the G40 is great for game playing; at lower resolutions, the frame rate “rarely fell below 60 fps even with full shadow complexity, filtering and textures.” He also thinks the sound is “fantastic” and the 17” display is great for playing movies and games.

Steve sums up by saying that he thinks it’s a little heavy to be very portable, but it’s great to move around the house and garden and the ideal use of the notebook “would probably be for a child’s bedroom or a parent’s study”, after which he offers a full listing of the Qosmio G40’s specifications. Le Daily Yomiuri, journal japonais, nous apprend que Toshiba serait sur le point de présenter un nouveau lecteur DVD qui serait capable de donner une image comparable (ou se rapprochant) de ce qui existe avec le Blu-ray.

Toshiba n’avait pas caché vouloir poursuivre ses recherches sur l’amélioration des lecteurs DVD et notamment un système d’upconversion encore plus développé. Il semble que ce donc le cas. La compagnie continue d’affirmer qu’elle ne commercialisera pas de lecteurs Blu-ray, mais compte compétitionner ce format avec ses propres lecteurs. Les nouveaux appareils sont attendus pour la fin 2008 ou début 2009.

Sur http://www.cinetvdvd.com/?p=842 on parle HDDVD. D’autres auraient dit: “Bye bye, c’est fini!”, mais pas Toshiba. Le fabricant japonais continue de faire le suivi nécessaire sur ses lecteurs HD DVD, notamment ceux de la première génération (HD-A1, etc.), en publiant un nouveau firmware, version 3.0. Cela devrait permettre d’améliorer la connectivité Internet, ainsi que de corriger de petits problèmes avec les prises HDMI. De nombreux observateurs font remarquer que ces lecteurs, déjà âgés de deux ans, sont souvent mieux équipés que la plupart actuels de la concurrence!

Chez Toshiba, on ne passera pas au Blu-ray. On va tout miser sur le downloading ! François Séguineau, directeur de la division informatique de Toshiba France, résume ainsi la nouvelle stratégie insufflée par le troisième vendeur d’ordinateurs portables dans l’Hexagone. Selonelon lui, Toshiba n’a pas perdu le support de la haute-définition.

Toshiba ajoute son grain de Cell à ses PC portables

Pour ne pas faire les choses à moitié, Toshiba entend utiliser d’ici à cet été - dans un premier temps au sein d’une partie de ses portables, dans un second temps associé à ses téléviseurs, un processeur vidéo spécialisé : le SpursEngine, une déclinaison de son processeur CELL.
