Toshiba show dedication in becoming record breakers… Again

Toshiba HD DriveOK, so as Engadget point out “it’s not by much”, but props nonetheless should go to the developers at Toshiba – who have managed to outdo themselves, and broken the record for 1.8-inch drive capacity with this new 250GB (count ‘em) MKxx29GSG series disk.

That’s a cool 10GB more than the previous record announced a few weeks ago, and not only is there enough extra capacity for 2,000 odd tracks or a fair few films, it’s also quicker than its previous counterpart. So what does that mean for you…?

Well, I couldn’t put it any better than Engadget themselves, who say of the drive… “That makes this 8.0-mm thick, 3Gbps SATA hard drive ideal for ultra-slim, ultra-portable laptops requiring snappy (and cheap compared to an equivalent capacity SSD) data access by your applications. At least it will be when it begins mass production in November.”

Indeed! Roll on the wintry months…

Toshiba Netbook NB105 captured on video - live in the wild!

Since the official announcement yesterday, it seems that news of the Toshiba netbook has been flowing out to all sorts of websites, and even The Guardian are getting involved. ”Toshiba, while not first out of the blocks, could be a player in the netbook market against the Asus Eee PC and similar machines” they say, and Engadget confirm “The NB100 will be offered in three colors, Cosmic Black, Champagne Gold, and Bright Silver” - although they are less than complimentary about the device itself.

However, most excitingly of all - Nilay at Engadget has uncovered this video of the Netbook. It has no sound, and is far from absolute professional quality, but have a look and see what you think…

A trio of Toshibas, and we want them now!

So the leak had begun last week on sites like Gizmodude and Engagdet and it is with great pleasure that we can confirm that, complete with stand out-design and multimedia features, Toshiba yesterday launched their brand new range of laptops: The 13.3 inch Satellite U400, 15.4 inch Satellite A300 and 17 inch Satellite P300 – which will be available (soon) in the second quarter of 2008.

Now, we at TalkToshiba are very keen on shiny silver things, and it is with quite some delight that we learn they are all “stylishly presented in titanium silver with a metallic-style LCD lid”. Boasting a number of design elements that the folks at Toshiba are very proud of, and one can see why, this new range of satellite notebooks offers a snazzy multimedia bar with six white LED-illuminated feather-touch ‘Easy Keys’, a white LED top border line on the Touch Pad, while matching white LED system indicators top it off.

The new laptops come with the latest Intel® and AMD CPUs, hard disc capacity up to 640 GB, and other features include a fingerprint reader and Harman Kardon speakers for your security and aural pleasure respectively. An integrated microphone and 1.3 megapixel camera complete the picture (as it were), making these laptops really neat little machines. We look forward to trying them out to give you the real lowdown!

Powerful games programing machine

bornon5 is trying to make the difficult move from desktop to laptop and, having had little experience in the area and of course needing a sophisticated piece of equiptment, he has asked for help from NotebookForums.com.

As well as running standard ‘mundane’ tasks, bornon5 also needs his new laptop to run considerably demanding graphics as he works in 3D animation and video games programming, which he needs to test. He is therefore after a powerful machine with a dedicated video card, at least 1 GB RAM and a 15.4″ screen.

With hard core specifications like that, there is one current laptop that’s wowed reviewers and could step up to the mark: the Satellite X205.

Engadget.com have been particularly impresses with its dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPUs, and 512MB of dedicated video RAM, not to mention its 17″ 1680 x 1050 resolution screen perfect for progamming on. The X205 sounds plenty powerful enough to replace bornon5’s desktop!
