The review starts positively, and although they’re arguably less enthused by the laptop than PC-Pro, continues in much the same vein. The reviewer Dave is put off slightly by the aesthetic qualities, “When it comes to the look of the laptop it resembles a very shiny piano, not really my taste but I’m sure it will appeal to some people out there.” And he also admits that the gesture control isn’t as great as it sounds.
However, “fairly priced at roughly £899 the Toshiba Qosmio F50-10Z has a surprising amount of features…” Dave makes a point of noting the Quad Core HD processor. And concludes by stating the laptop is “a good middle of the range media focused” fellow - for all his thoughts go to the Idealo review.

Man liegt entspannt auf dem Sofa, hat gerade eine spannende „Terra X“ - Doku geschaut und dann beginnt die Nachfolgesendung: Rosamunde Pilcher! … und die Fernbedienung liegt natürlich absolut unerreichbar auf dem Couchtisch.
Wie man so eine Katastrophe vermeide kann? Indem man die Fernbe- dienung einfach abschafft! Und dazu hat Matthias die Varianten von Toshiba, JVC und Panasonic kurz vorgestellte.
Toshiba verwendet die Gesture Control, also die Steuerung mit der Faust, wie sie auch für den Notebook Markt verfügbar ist.
JVC verwendet einem Misch aus Gestensteuerung und Klatschen. Aber Tamin meinte in seinem Kommentar:
“Klatschen ist kein guter Weg um Daten einem Gerät mitzuteilen. Dsa hat sich auch bei den Fernbedienungen für Stromstecker nicht wirklich durchgesetzt.”
Panasonic hat nicht wirklich auf die Fernbedienung verzichtet, sondern sie ganz neue erfunden. Aber schaut doch selbst hier bei dem Blog vorbei und macht euch ein Bild von der Technologie. Zu jedem Hersteller gibt es ein interessantes Video und zu guter Letzt gibt es noch ein Video zu einer der ersten Fernbedienung. Wirklich sehenswert!
We Got Served, the windows home server site, has kindly offered its “WGS prize for the coolest thing seen at IFA today” award to *fanfare please* the new Toshiba Qosmio G50 laptop.
Despite his admission that you “wouldn’t want to take one out on a date”, and his usual dismissal of desktop replacement laptops, Terry is nonetheless head-over-heels with admiration for this computer. Most notable to him is the Gesture Control technology “which allows you to control the computer (including MediaCenter) simply by waving your fist in the air – the gestures you make are picked up by the G50’s integrated webcam.”
He continues “You may never use it in anger if you own one of these laptops, but it scores big on the show-off scale.” Too true – what better way to impress the neighbors than flicking on an episode of Family Guy with nothing more than a flick of the thumb? A warning though: “That said, if you are using one, be careful not to get angry in front of the TV - who knows the fist-shaking carnage you could cause!” Good point Terry!

Für alle die, die den offiziellen Werbevideos nicht so recht glauben, gibt es von laptopmag.com ein Test des Vorserienmodells, bei dem auch die Steuerung per Handbewegung als Video aufgenommen wurde. Die Funktion wird voraussichtlich in alle neuen Qosmio Modell integriert sein, die mit dem Quad Core HD Prozessor ausgestattet sind.
Ich persönlich finde es ein echt cooles Feature für das ich zwar nicht meine Maus hergeben würde, aber gerade bei Filmabenden kann ich mir das sehr praktisch vorstellen und wer weiß wie sich die Technik in dieser Richtung weiter entwickelt.

Am heißesten wird zur Zeit die Upscalling Funktion diskutiert. Toshiba hat auf den ein BluRay Laufwerke verzichtet und dafür ein extra Co-Prozessor eingebaut, der die alten DVDs so richtig aufbessern soll ohne dabei den normalen Betrieb zu beinträchtigen.
Those chaps at Laptop Mag have got their hands on a Qosmio G55 and on first impressions they’re already calling it “groundbreaking” because of its “futuristic good looks” and the fact that “it’s the first notebook to boast a dedicated Quad Core HD Processor”.
Author of the review, Jeffrey L Wilson, writes that the G55 is the first notebook to allow users to control music, video and PowerPoint using just their hands. Yep, that’s right- no remote controls, keyboards, or mouses, just your bare hands! After spending time familiarising himself with this system, Jeffrey is “quite impressed”; he watched cult classic Xanadu and paused, skipped and generally messed around with the film utilising the gesture control software.
