Darkjedimaster has apparently been searching for a laptop for awhile now so this thread on Digital Spy would have us believe, and although he is “limited to how much he can spend”, he thinks “he may have found a good deal” in the form of the Toshiba Satellite L300-18D, available at only £350.

The laptop, which sports some pretty tidy spec, including a 2.00ghz core 2 duo processor, 2gb RAM, 120gb hdd and plenty more – but ever cautious, our Star Wars themed pal has been keen to seek the advice of others, and the response has been rather favourable, albeit with certain provisos.

Loobster was keen to advise “Yep you will be pleased with that. I set up the same model for a friend with a slightly slower processor and it flew once I took the Norton crapware off, so don’t forget to do that”. Frasera was positive too, if not emphatic suggesting “its specs are ok”.

Loobster again to finish though, “The mid-range Core2Duo chips like the one in this laptop are very fast and easily good enough for most things. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at just how quick it is.

Proxy hat sich ans linux-forum.de gewandt, weil er sein L300-180 mit Linux betreiben will, aber da fehlen ihm noch die passenden Treiber für seine “Wlankarte (eingebaut) von Realtek”, deswegen musste er die ganze Aktion erstmal wieder ablasen. 

Wenn ihr eine Lösung für sein Problem kennt, dann schreibt doch bitte ins Forum.

Was mich interessiert ist, ob jemand von euch vielleicht schon Erfahrung mit Toshiba und Linux gemacht hat. Und wenn ja natürlich, wie es funktioniert hat. Also ich freu mich auf ein paar Kommentare.

Alle Notebooks haben Windows VistaBusiness Edition vorinstalliert, aber es gibt ebenso Windows XP Professional dazu.

Back when I was a lad, £200 wouldn’t buy you a 16-bit console and 2 games, and one would have to dip very deep to buy anything approaching a remotely usable PC. But luckily those days are long gone, and this pocket-lint.co.uk review of the Toshiba L300 does much to remind us of that.

“The Toshiba Satellite L300 is one such machine, but at first appearance you wouldn’t think that it costs less than £300” begins the review, and we cannot help but agree. The boys over at the site in question have give this laptop 8/10 – and despite having some reservations about the ability of the notebook to run more taxing applications, cannot help but marvel at its overall suitability for those after a basic machine.

“The Toshiba Satellite L300 won’t suit everyone, as its base specification isn’t powerful enough for anything but the most basic of tasks. However, if you just need something for surfing the web or responding to email, this is a great machine at a bargain price.”

A thousand kudos, and raised glasses galore to i4u.com, who have brightened the first day of the summery month of July with this rather interesting post from within the Toshiba camp. It seems that “Toshiba has announced that it updated some of its Satellite series notebooks with the new AMD next generation notebook platform”.

“Models receiving upgrades include the P300D, A300D, M300D, U400D, L300D, and L350D” and it looks like it’s good news for all concerned as “the new AMD platforms offer better performance, visuals and battery life compared to previous AMD platforms.

With new features ever round the corner, and happy reviews from almost all concerned, it seems like a good time to become a Toshiba Satellite owner.

pulse wendet sich ratsuchend an das notebookforum.at. Er besitzt einen Toshiba Satellite, auf diesem hat er jetzt BS Windows XP installiert (vorher Windows Vista). Das einzige was jetzt noch fehlt ist eine WLAN-Verbimdung, aber dies will leider nicht so richtig funktionieren…

“To be honest, the L300 is just perfect for what it is — a simple budget 15.4-inch laptop” concludes the www.cnet.com review of the budget L300 Toshiba Satellite laptop, before the editor rates it a rather healthy 8/10. 

Suggesting that “the best way to describe Toshiba’s Satellite L300 is basic” – reviewer Craig Simms seems to be a fan of the simplicity he has found with this machine. “It’s a straightforward two-tone laptop in silver and black, and doesn’t pretend to be ‘personalised’ to your needs” he says, describing this notebook as “no doubt the perfect upgrade to those who are feeling a bit cash-strapped, or who just need to get through uni.”

Not overly impressed with the performance, Craig nonetheless checks his expectations against the price of the computer, and thus describes his overall impressions of said scores as “definitely within acceptable limits”. After all, without heaps of bundled software driving up prices, what you are left with seems to be great value for money. As Craig puts it “The specs and price makes this the perfect cheap office or internet machine.”

pulse ist Forum Newbie im notebookforum.at, er ist sehr interessiert an dem Toshiba L300 14C Notebook. Allerdings versteht er nicht warum nur diese Glas Displays verbaut werden. Er findet diese nämlich nicht so gut. Hagiman ist Forum Stammgast und hat folgende Antwort, Zitat: “…Der Markt wollte ist der Markt hat es bekommen. Die L300 ist eine Retail Kiste da haben die Kunden halt andere Erwartungen als im Business Segment. Die Firmen, wollen ein solides Notebook, was leise ist, eine lange Akkulaufzeit hat Komma und ein mattes Display hat (den in Konferenzräumen hat immer eine Seite Fenster)…

…Das bedeutet für dich, entweder preiswertes Business Gerät (Tecra A9) oder sich mit dem glänzenden Displays anfreunden…”

Toshiba vient de sortir une nouvelle gamme d’ordinateurs portables qui présentent l’avantage de rester dans une gamme de prix abordable. Parmi les nouveaux modèles on peut citer le Satellite A210-287, 3 nouveaux modèles Satellite L300 et le plus abordable, le L300D. Tous ces modèles sont d’ores et déjà disponibles.

Le modèle qui offre les performances les plus intéressantes est sans nul doute le Satellite A210-287. Il est doté d’un processeur AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core avec une vitesse de 1,9 GHz et une carte graphique prometteuse, la Mobility Radeon HD 2400, dotée d’une RAM de 128 Mo. L’ordinateur est livré avec le système d’exploitation Vista Home Premium pré-installé. Le prix de ce modèle devrait avoisiner 799 euros.

Les 3 nouveaux modèles de la gamme L300 peuvent constituer une alternative meilleur marché pour ceux dont le budget est plus serré. Les trois modèles sont équipés d’un processeur Intel Dual Core et d’une carte graphique Intel X3100 GMA . La capacité du disque dur varie en fonction du modèle entre 160 et 250 Go. Les prix devraient varier entre 599 et 549 euros suivant le modèle choisi. Le modèle le plus accessible est le Satellite L300D. Le modèle est vendu avec un processeur Athlon X2 Dual Core pour un prix de 549 euros.

quadlev wendet sich hilfesuchend an das notebookforum.at. Er besitzt seit einigen Wochen einen Toshiba L300, allerdings spiel das Touchpad etwas verrückt, d. h. der Mauszeiger springt über das Display und verschiebt Verknüpfungen und öffnet Anwendungen wahllos. Hagiman rät ihm folgendes zu tun, Zitat: “…Deaktiviere doch einfach im Touchpad Utility das ein berühren des Touchpads als linker Mausklick gewertet wird. Ist doch sonnenklar das ohne Tisch und durch die Vibrationen der Hand, das Touchpad falsche Informationen bekommt…”
