How many great inventions of this modern world do we take for granted? I for one used to neglect Toshiba laptops and their greatness” begins the post from Coriander Dreams in her post entitled ‘Using this one everyday’ – and what a pleasant beginning to a post it is.

Now although the mysteriously monikered author doesn’t go on to elucidate about exactly what Toshiba she is talking about, she does seem to be extremely happy about the “glossy screen” – of course, not everything is perfect – but while “the only thing I am not that happy about is the screen size”, who can deny that “of course this means it is a lot lighter in weight as well so I should not really complain about it.”

Meanwhile, Colleen from GeekySpeaky has come out, all guns blazing, in support of Microsoft Vista – quite unexpected after she openly admits that she actively sought any other operating system just weeks ago when purchasing a sparkly new Toshiba. All change now though, and she has to admit “I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I haven’t had any of the compatibility issues that I’ve heard others reporting, and if anything, Vista and the way it works to organize things has made my life easier.”

“So yes, I’m willing to take back all of the negative press I gave Vista…but it IS a Microsoft product, so we all know there’s still room for error.” Indeed, but interesting to note that there are bloggers out there who do like the Vista platform.

For far too many folk, dubious laptops seemingly left over from the cold-war bring nothing more than frustration and lack of productivity. And as Arutha (author of the review) says “for the next generation of business laptops this is one to consider”, pointing out the dual core processor and 2GB of RAM, alongside the enviable 200GB hard drive space and DVD writer as standard.

Of course, the P300 isn’t perfect for everybody… “For us gamers don’t even go there” – but if it is a business laptop you are after, then this is certainly one to consider according to gaj-it.com who heartily recommend “writing those ‘recommendation’ letters to your boss…” You heard them – get to it!

Le géant de l’électronique japonais Toshiba et le fabricant de logiciels américain Microsoft ont annoncé vendredi à Tokyo la création d’un consortium pour doper l’édition de films en haute-définition sur HD-DVD interactifs et la création d’une gamme nouvelle de produits et services.

Le but de cet organisme, baptisé Advanced Interactivity Consortium (AIC), est de favoriser l’édition d’oeuvres, principalement des films sur disques optiques au format haute-définition HD-DVD, dotés de fonctions interactives.

Elles veulent surtout par ce biais doper l’édition de vidéos interactives sur disque optique de nouvelle génération HD-DVD, format créé par Toshiba et soutenu par Microsoft.

La méthode consiste à intégrer directement dans les HD-DVD des options dans les menus et scènes renvoyant vers internet, pour par exemple acheter des bonus complémentaires ou accéder à divers sites plus ou moins liés au contenu du HD-DVD.

Toshiba et Microsoft misent sur cette fonction interactive pour renforcer l’attractivité du HD-DVD face à la norme concurrente Blu-Ray de Sony, à laquelle se sont ralliés nombreux industriels.

“Le HD-DVD est la première plate-forme qui intègre d’origine un mode d’interactivité avancé inclus tant sur les disques eux-mêmes que dans les fonctions des lecteurs”, selon Toshiba.

Plusieurs studios hollywoodiens (DreamWorks Animation, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios et Warner Bros.) sont partie prenante à cette initiative.

Joe vermutet, dass dass die optimierten DirectX 8.1-Treiber, die mit manchen Notebooks ausgeliefert wurden, für einen Platz in der Inkompatibilitätsliste verantworlich sein könnten. Ansonsten würden aber einige dieser Rechner die Anforderungen für “Vista Capable” durchaus erfüllen.
