Earlier this week we covered Pocketlint’s review of Toshiba’s first foray into the competitive netbook market with the new NB100, which according to Toshiba is aimed at “schoolchildren, senior citizens, and mobile workers who do not require the processor power or range of functions of a full-sized laptop”.

Hot on the heels of this news also comes the announcement, that two more offerings, this time targeted at the business-end of the market, are about to hit the streets. The Portégé A600 and Portégé R600 are both 12.1-inch models and contain more features and higher-end specs than the NB100.

The A600 is the weightier of the two coming in at 1.46kg, runs on Intel’s Centrino 2 processor and comes with 3GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. In contrast the high-end R600 is targeted at “style-conscious business users” and weighs in at just 979g. Also running Intel’s Centrino 2 processor it features a 128GB solid state disk (SSD). Both come with spill-resistant keyboards and fingerprint readers as standard.

“Ein sehr solides Netbook”

It’s been just about a month since we covered the unveiling of Toshiba’s NB100-11R at Toshiba’s first ever Mobility Conference in Zurich and Stephen Patrick over at Pocketlint has just posted an indepth review of the notebook.

Describing the release as “better later than never” he reckons it’s a vast improvement over the “toy-like” mini-notebook pioneer Eee and its compatriots, looking more like “a bona-fida miniature laptop.” He describes this as being partly due to the lack of “thick and unsightly bezels” often found on the NB100’s competitors whose own display makes the most of the available real estate by stretching as close to the edge as possible.

He’s also smitten with the Toshiba-tweaked version of Ubuntu which he says provides “a comprehensive suite of built-in applications all compatible with the software you’re already accustomed to. PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files can all be accessed with ease, and it represents huge value for money in comparison to the more expensive XP model”.

His verdict? “With its mini-me styling, comprehensive software suite and easy to use operating system, it’s impossible to dislike the NB100…some users will definitely find the small keyboard too cramped. Other than that, it’s an excellent effort, and one that comes highly recommended.”

Heute geht der Dank an eeepcnews.de, die zwei Testberichte zum Toshiba Netbook NB 100 gefunden haben, die allerdings zu sehr unterschiedlichen Bewertungen kommen.  Deshalb hat ‘Matze’ gleich noch seine eigene Meinung dazu geschrieben und mittlerweile gibt es auch schon zahlreiche Kommentare zum Artikel/Netbook.

Une preview du Netbook par Toshiba, le NB100 est postée sur cowcotland . Une machine en 8.9 pouces, ATOM N270 1.6 GHz, 512 (Linux) ou 1024 Mo (Win XP) de DDR2, disque dur de 80 (Linux) ou 120 Go (XP), et disposant de l’Ethernet, du Wifi, de 3 ports USB, d’une webcam 0.3 M, d’ un lecteur de cartes, d’un Express Card, d’une batterie de 4 cellules, le tout pour 1 kg et un tarif de l’ordre de 350 à 370 €.

Dans l’ensemble, la rédaction a plutôt appréciée ce NB100, qui offre une bonne qualité générale. Le clavier est assez grand. Les ports VGA et Ethernet sont eux placés à l’arrière ce qui change un peu. Au niveau du Touchpad, pas d’inquiétude avec sa bonne taille, et chose assez sympathique les diodes d’activités se trouvent à même la partie basse du Touchpad. Enfin l’écran semble de qualité et il fonctionne de façon passive sans ventilateur.

Pour un test complet, il faudra attendre un petit mois, mais vous pouvez le découvrir par le biais de nombreuses photos.

Doesn’t YouTube throw up some cracking stuff – yesterday the Queen was openly ‘lol’ing at a laughing baby, and today… Well, today brings footage of the exclusive NB100 netbook, live from CeBit Euro Asia, set to an emotive dance-based soundtrack.

I wasn’t there myself, much to my sadness – but this video makes me feel like I was… Well, not quite, but it’s an interesting insight into the netbook that seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongue in the run up to Christmas.

Mädels aufgepasst und Jungs nicht weg gehört! Von Toshiba gibt es, laut akihabaranews.com, bald noch ein “Edel-Netbook”, das es auch Pink geben wird. Keine Sorge es gibt natürlich auch eine Variante in schwarz bzw. silber.

Zur Ausstattung des Netbooks zählt ein 1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo Prozessor , bis zu 3 GB Ram , eine 128 GB SSD Festplatte oder wahlweise eine normale 160 GB Festplatte , WLan 802.11 b/g/n sowie das 12.1 Zoll große Display mit einer Auflösung von 1280 x 800.

Für mich klingt das ganz nach dem Ausstattungsmerkmalen des Dynabook SS RX2, von dem vor zwei Wochen die Rede war. Das wiederum würde heißen, dass wir uns auf 12h Akku Laufzeit freuen können.

Bereits Ende Oktober werden wir es genau wissen, denn dann soll das Dynabook bereits auf den Markt kommen. Preis ist noch nicht bekannt, er wird auf 1200 € mit HDD Festplatte und auf 1930 € mit SSD Festplatte geschätzt.

Présenté discrètement au Mexique, le Satellite NB105 de Toshiba semble être le premier netbook du constructeur japonais. Les contours de ce mini PC portable restent très professionnels, aux antipodes du design “fun” et coloré que ceux proposé par les concurrents.

Il faudra attendre encore quelques semaines son lancement officiel en Europe. En juillet dernier, Toshiba avait confirmé qu’il préparait un mini PC portable sans pour autant préciser si cette future machine ferait partie de la catégorie des netbooks.
