Wir berichteten letzte Woche vom Livestream-Test des Toshiba NB100 und jetzt gibt es für alle die das verpasst haben, ein YouTube Video mit den Highlights. Aber seht doch einfach selbst:

Kanada ist schneller als wir!

In Kanada ist das Toshiba Portégé R600 und das Portégé M750 bereits im Laden erhältlich, während wir uns noch gedulden müssen.

Das Portégé R600 ist ein handliches 12,1″ Subnotebook mit Intel Core 2 Duo ULV CPU und integriertem Intel GMA X4500 Grafikchip. Seine Energie erhält der kleine Kerl aus einem 6Zellen Li-Ion Akku mit 5800mAh. Damit sollen bis zu 9h Akkulaufzeit erreicht werden können.

Das  Portégé M750 ist ein kompakter 12,1″ Tablet PC mit Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 Prozessor und ebenfalls mit integriertem Intel GMA X4500 Grafikchip. Der Li-Ion Akku mit 4700 mAh soll für 4,63h Laufzeit ausreichen.

Usually it’s best to focus on individual laptops when dipping into specifications, capabilities and performance of notebooks – but just so often one feels the need to talk about the whole range - and thus, this discussion of the Toshiba Qosmio G303012E on buzzle.com proceeded, discussing not just the specific G303012E model, but indeed the Qosmio range in general.

“The Qosmio range from Toshiba will keep you entertained 24×7. According to many, Qosmio means “my personal universe”. The Toshiba Qosmio will definitely become your own personal universe and you will definitely be hooked on to it all the time” – they begin, and go on to wax lyrical some more about their experiences with the device.

Die Jungs von hardwareluxx.de, haben Toshibas Tablet-PC Portégé M700 getestet. Das M700 lässt sich dank des drehbaren Displays, sowohl als normales Notebook einsetzten also auch als Tablet-PC, der mit Stift bzw. auch den Fingern zu bedienen ist. Im Test wurden fast ausschließlich die normalen Notebook Funktionen getestet und die Tablett-Funktion vernachlässigt, das ist natürlich ein bisschen schade bei einem Tablet-PC.
Trotzdem kann sich der Test sehen lassen:

Der erste Eindruck täuscht nicht – Toshibas Portégé M700 ist ein gänzlich unauffälliger, hochwertig verarbeiteter Workaholic, der rund um die Uhr zuverlässig seinen Dienst erfüllt und darüber hinaus komfortabel mit einem Stift bedient werden kann. Gerade User, die auf Mobilität angewiesen sind, können sich über einen lang laufendem Akku freuen.

Natürlich gab es auch zwei negative Punkte, wie den nicht gerade niedrige Preis, der sich aber durch die Tablet-PC-Funktionalität erklären und somit auch verschmerzen lässt und bedingt durch die nötige Beschichtung präsentiert sich das Display mit einer wenig überzeugenden Blickwinkelunabhängigkeit.

It’s been hinted at for some while, but according to the UK consumer organisation Which? – Toshiba officially provide the most reliable laptops in the UK!

Alongside Sony at the top of the tree, 93 per cent of Toshiba owning Which? members surveyed said their laptop had never needed repair. Fujitsu-Siemens got 91 per cent, and Apple and Dell scored 87 per cent. Next were Acer and HP with 84 per cent, and the average score was 87 per cent.

The survey is based on answers from 7,919 Which? members, and also found that the average price of laptops is still falling - from £900 in 2006, £800 in 2007 to £750 in 2008, and Apple came top in terms of customer staisfaction. Half of those questioned got their machines from retailers and 84 per cent put John Lewis top of the satisfaction league, while PC World scored just 45 per cent.

Reason enough for a celebration I wager!

Nigel has produced a large review detailing the ins and outs of the Satellite U400. He’s aware that the market is “saturated” with models that will compete at the price point of £480, so the question is how does it do?

After a plethora of pictures and specifications doing exceptional work of conveying what this bit of kit is capable of, Nigel gets down to the crux of the matter. He does admit to a penchant for Toshiba because, “support is excellent, the quality is decent and the performance usually dependable” and as far as he’s concerned the U400 is no different.”

Specific to the U400 though is his praise of it being fast, compact and light. Meaning for Nigel, in terms of a general purpose portable computer, “You can do a lot worse for a lot more money.”

Like your laptops fuller of body, and broader of screen? Well it seems that, according to pcadvisor.co.uk anyway, the Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-14P could be the laptop for you.

You see, not only is the beast fitted with a 17inch screen, and available for under £400, but has a particularly impressive sound system, and all the “major facilities you could ever need from a full-size laptop”. With plenty of USB ports, FireWire, S-video out for connection to a TV, plus ExpressCard and SD Card expansion ports, as the boys say – “you feel like you’re getting a lot of laptop for your money”.

Of course, there are negatives – but although “the Toshiba Satellite Pro P300-14P’s WorldBench 6 real-world speed score of 59 is one of the lower scores even at this price point,” pcadvisor.co.uk are quick to point out an easy way of fixing the problem.

Vom 29. August bis 3. September findet die IFA in Berlin statt, aber schon jetzt gab es eine “Preview” Pressekonferenz in Berlin. Wie Damian Amherd von neuerdings.com berichtet wurde dort von Toshiba, neben Neuigkeiten beim HD-TV und den drei neuen Qosmio-Modelle (F50, G50 und X300), auch eine Umweltinitiative von Toshiba vorgestellt.

Mit der Initiative will Toshiba einen Beitrag für mehr Energieeffizienz leisten und zukünftig giftige Stoffe aus allen Produkten verbannen. Bei den Fernsehern soll die Effizienzsteigerung folgendermaßen umgesetzt werden:

“Erstens verbrauchen alle neuen Fernseher im Standby-Modus weniger als 1 Watt, zweitens sorgt ein eingebauter Lichtsensor dafür, dass das Display nur so fest beleuchtet wird wie notwendig und zuguterletzt wird fortan ein “echter” Netzschalter eingebaut, der es ermöglicht, den Fernseher auch komplett auszuschalten.” neuerdings.com

Außerdem sollen laut der Spezial-Toshiba-Website, bis 2009 schrittweise alle Teile, die Polyvinylchlorid und bromierten Flammschutzmittel enthalten durch Alternativen ersetzt werden. Dieser Schritt wird vor allem die Notebooksparte betreffen.

Eine Umweltinitiative von Toshiba gibt es schon länger, wie man in einem älteren Bericht auf magnus.de nach lesen kann.
“Bereits 2006 hatte Toshiba die “Environmental Vision 2010” mit dem Ziel gestartet, die ökologische Effizienz bis 2010 gegenüber dem Produktionsjahr 2000 zu verdoppeln”

Jetzt sollen diese Anstrengungen wahrscheinlich nochmal intensiviert werden und besonders das künftige Verbot der Zusatzstoffe stellt einen großen Schritt für das Unternehmen dar.
