Das Toshiba Portégé R500 wurde jetzt auch von freenet.de getestet.

Mein persönlicher kleiner Liebling von Toshiba, hat mit 85 von 100 Punkten eine “sehr gute” Leistung gezeigt. Den Testbericht findet ihr hier.

Die getestet Variante R500-11Y ist mit einer 64 GB SSD Festplatte ausgestattet und ist damit nicht nur Stoß unempfindlicher, sondern hat auch eine viel kürzere Datenzugriffszeit.

“Laut einem Test mit dem Programm HD Tune liegt die Zugriffszeit bei diesem Exemplar bei 0,3 Millisekunden (ms). Zum Vergleich: Eine 3,5 Zoll große Samsung SATA-Festplatte mit 7.200 Umdrehungen pro Minute benötigte 14,2 ms. “

Ein weiters interessantes Feature, das mir bis jetzt noch nicht so aufgefallen ist, ist der SIM Karten Schacht im Notebook, um per HSDPA oder UMTS ohne zusätzliches Handy zu surfen. 

Ich bin immer wieder überrascht was das kleine Portégé R500 so kann.

Le R500 est un ultra portable en puissance. Tout petit, il étonne particulièrement par son poids plume. Doté d’une bonne autonomie et d’un écran adapté, il pourra vous accompagner partout. Cependant son prix le réserve à une clientèle fortunée ou aux professionnels qui pourront se contenter de ses faibles performances.

Design et finition

Au premier contact, on est surpris par le poids du R500 au point même de croire qu’il s’agit d’une coque vide destinée aux présentations. Il n’en est rien, avec 770 grammes sur la balance, c’est l’ultra portable par excellence. Très fin et peu encombrant, vous pourrez le glisser très facilement dans n’importe quel sac ou le porter à la main. Côté look c’est du sérieux avec une coque grise très sobre. L’écran 12,1 pouces est parfaitement adapté à un usage nomade. A la clef, l’absence notable de reflets et une lecture sans gêne en plein soleil. En revanche, le rendu des couleurs est un peu froid et les noirs sont plus proches du gris.

OK – so we all know that Toshiba’s Toshiba Portege R500 weighs less than 2 pounds (1.72 to be precise), and the fact that it’s lighter than the much lauded Apple MacBook. But how does it fare in all other respects?

Es gibt Testberichte, da findet man alle möglichen Daten und Benchmarks, aber weiß nicht so recht was man damit soll. Natürlich findet man auch das komplette Gegenteil, Test die nur auf das Aussehen und Gimmicks wert legen und wahrscheinlich eine MacBook kaufen würden, weil das integrierte Webcam Programm so lustig ist.

Das Ganze ist natürlich ein bisschen übertrieben, aber zum neuen Toshiba Portégé R500 gibt es soviel Tests und Meinungen, dass man von totaler Begeisterung bis zu dummen Komentaren so ziemlich alles findet und da war ich froh als ich den Test auf manager-magazin.de gelesen habe. Informativ, Objektiv und sehr gut geschrieben.

Der Tester, Matthias Kremp, schien zu Beginn zwar vom Gewicht überrascht zu sein, aber auf Grund des Preises nicht ganz so zu verstehen wer das kaufen soll wenn es doch das Asus Eee gibt. Doch er hat es probiert und sich auch um die Technik gekümmert, die in den 800g stecken. Er beschreibt auf ein schöne Weise was der Zwerg alles kann und auch was er nicht kann und schien am Ende doch von dem kleinen Wunderknaben (zumindesten für die Business-Anwendung) überzeugt zu sein. Ein weiterer ausführlicher Bericht ist auf notebookjournal.de zufinden, aber nach dem ich Matthias sein Bericht gelesen habe, stört es mich irgendwie dass man ein Subnotebook, das mit zig kleinen Tricks zum Energie sparen ausgestattet ist(Sonnendisplay, Magnessium Legierung, SSD Festplatte …) unter Volllast testet und dann sich über die Akkuleistung beschwert. Es wurde zwar genannt, dass es “kein Realitäts-Test” ist, aber wer benutzt ein Portégé zum Spielen oder Video bearbeiten? Portégé ist ‘die ultraportable Business Serie mit elegantem Design’.

Aber ihr sollt euch ja eine eigene Meinung bilden und ein wahre Bibliothek an Testberichten wurde hier bei notebookcheck.com angelegt.

It seems that a certain proportion of the laptop-buying public won’t rest until they have the lightest notebook on the market, and it is with some delight, no doubt, that our pals over at infopockets.com have discovered the 1.72 pound Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V.

First things first – and we know it’s the question everyone will be asking, and the

answer is an unequivocal yes! “Apple’s MacBook air clocks in at 3 pounds and Lenovo’s Thinkpad X300 is still 1.21 pounds heavier than the Portege at 2.93 pounds”. So there you have it – and we’re saying nothing.

Of course, such demure laptoppery (I’m inventing words here) comes at a price,

and “if consumers opt for the “world’s thinnest widescreen,” at.77 inches, the notebook comes with an integrated DVD-SuperMulti drive. However, if you want the ‘world’s lightest widescreen’ you will have to live without the optical disk drive.”

Larry Dignan has written a new blog over at ZDNet on Toshiba’s new slimmed down look for its Portege range of laptops. This has been made possible because of the new 128GB solid-state drive that’s been added to the range, and it means as well as being far slimmer, the R500-S5007V will be the lightest laptop of its kind, with a 128GB SSD and a DVD SuperMulti drive - at a featherweight 2.4 pounds.

Larry makes note that ultra-slim laptops are all the rage at the moment, but what differentiates Toshiba from the rest of the gang is the fact that the Portege’s have a much better storage capacity than their rivals; many of whom “expect you to live in the cloud and store information there too–or use attached drives”. Toshiba, by including a SSD card and 7mm DVD SuperMulti drive, keep the weight down but don’t skimp on the storage capacity.

Certains composants comme la mémoire sont faciles d’accès afin de pouvoir les remplacer, il dispose d’un graveur DVD double couche externe au format slim, d’un clavier anti-éclaboussures, d’une protection du disque dur sur 3 axes, d’utilitaires de sécurité, de sauvegarde et de diagnostique et d’un DVD de restauration Windows XP Professionnel. Garanti 1 an, le Toshiba Portégé R500-135 s’adresse aux professionnels à la recherche d’un ordinateur portable nomade en vue d’une utilisation bureautique/internet et multimédia de base. En effet, son poids de moins de 1 Kg en fait un modèle très léger à transporter.

Cisco Cheng from PCMag.com has given the Portégé R500 (SSD) a spin, and reports that it is a ‘worthy rival to the MacBook Air and the Thinkpad X300’.

Cisco brings us a lengthy and balanced report on the R500, beginning with the new SSD suffix. The 64GB Solid State Drive allows for a lighter 3 cell battery as opposed to the 6 cells previously needed to support a traditional spinning hard drive. Also, if this laptop is dropped, the hard drive is less likely to break than a conventional one with moving parts. Sounds good, but Cisco does surmise that the lack of an optical drive might put some people off, and the screen is ‘cracker-thin’, succumbing to ‘serious flexing issues’.

That said, certain sacrifices have had to be made to bring this notebook down to the ‘astonishing’ 1.7 pound stripped-down weight (half as heavy as its rivals in this field). Cisco says that the ‘magnesium frame feels like a dummy model absent of any parts’, but for the business user who needs portability and usability without the risk of a hernia, the R500 (SSD) has to be the laptop of choice.

Elizabeth Young at Gadgetell brings us news of the Portégé R500 getting all grown up with the inclusion of a 128GB SSD (or Solid State Drive for the non-cognoscenti amongst us). Previously covered on these pages, the SSD is set to revolutionise laptop power, noise and efficiency.

Elizabeth goes on to list some of the spec of the R500, including the internal DVD writer (stick that in your MacBook Air and smoke it), and the plethora of connectivity options. She bemoans the inclusion of Vista Business, preferring XP herself, but overall seems happy with the SSD news.

So one of our Qosmio G40s has landed in the blogosphere – and despite initial scepticism, its recipient Joeb over on Joeb’s Blog (which specialises in Ubuntu, Windows, Xbox 360…& Stuff) is now the proud owner (for a few weeks at least) of said laptop.

Of course, having been in possession of the computer for but 24 hours or less, he hasn’t found out too much about the general running of it just yet – but he has come up with some initial reactions to the machine, as well as treating his readers to some rather nifty pictures too.
