We Got Served, the windows home server site, has kindly offered its “WGS prize for the coolest thing seen at IFA today” award to *fanfare please* the new Toshiba Qosmio G50 laptop.
Despite his admission that you “wouldn’t want to take one out on a date”, and his usual dismissal of desktop replacement laptops, Terry is nonetheless head-over-heels with admiration for this computer. Most notable to him is the Gesture Control technology “which allows you to control the computer (including MediaCenter) simply by waving your fist in the air – the gestures you make are picked up by the G50’s integrated webcam.”
He continues “You may never use it in anger if you own one of these laptops, but it scores big on the show-off scale.” Too true – what better way to impress the neighbors than flicking on an episode of Family Guy with nothing more than a flick of the thumb? A warning though: “That said, if you are using one, be careful not to get angry in front of the TV - who knows the fist-shaking carnage you could cause!” Good point Terry!
Hands up who’s excited by SolidState drives! Good work – now read on, for remarkable news is afoot.
For, you see, Mr. Shozo Saito of Toshiba has revealed at a recent Japanese seminar that not only are his company hoping to ‘flesh out’ their line of SSD discs within the next few years, but plans are afoot to offer drives with as much as 512GB of room packed into their sleek drives.
Mr. Saito went further, expecting “a full quarter of laptops sold in 2011 to come equipped with an SSD” – which is extremely exciting news, considering that the first decade of the noughties is rapidly crashing to a close. Engadget were clearly excited, expressing their sentiments sublimely into a single sentence: “Move over Samsung — that 256GB SSD you’ve been touting is now half as cool as it used to be”
Following a lot of drama involving a virus-filled computer, circuit city and a dispute about moneyback guarantees, hazel06 is now back in the race for a new laptop, and to keep the search diaster-free has requested advice from The Purse Forum.
Needing something with at least 1GB of RAM and over two hour’s battery life, it needn’t be the highest tech laptop, but it needs to be sturdy and long-lasting.
Luckily, Abi James has compiled a comprehensive review of several Toshiba laptops ranging from entry level to power users for iansyst.co.uk. This includes a particularly good review of the Tecra A9. Described as a mid range laptop that is ideal for heavy student and light buisness use alike, the Tecra A9 incorporates Easyguard technology with 2GB of RAM and Intel Core Duo. With a decent battery life and appealing extras such as biometric finger print scanner and voice recognition, the Tecra A9 sounds just right for hazel06.
When looking for a laptop that can combine practicality with decent gaming, the choices can seem a little unclear. This is the dilemma faced by Garaen at the moment. The solution: reaching out to the techies of FreddysHouse forum for advice.
Citing specs such as 2ghz CPU core duo, 2GB RAM and a 15-17″ screen range as well as enough power to play games to a reasonable standard whilst still being suitable for office use, Garaen needs a notebook for both work and play.
One laptop that combines the two effortlessly is the Satellite P105, which has recently been described by TechnologyBytes as ‘fantastic’! A user review notes that all games run ‘perfectly’, better than on most desktop PCs. It goes on to say that the laptop runs ‘phenomenally’ even after heavy use. Being perfect for the, sometimes temperamental world of gaming, as well as providing everything a work user needs, the P105 may well be a laptop that could interest and fulfil Garaen’s needs.
A recent customer review of the Portege M400-EZ5031 on the Toshibadirect review page has revealed that 66% of customers would recommend the laptop to friends, winning the notebook 4/5 stars!
The reviews comment on the A8’s desirable features including its value, lightweight body and keyboard. The review also highlighted its EasyGuard technology which is designed for optimal reliability, security and connectivity and is receiving acclaim from a number of review sites.
