Test: Toshiba Tecra A8

blogeek.bmp

Tecra A8 takes Hack Day by storm

talkToshiba triallist Chris Riley (of cgriley.com fame) has just returned from Hack Day and he’s reviewed the Tecra A8 we lent him for the event.

Hack Day was certainly an eventful event! The free beer and lightning strikes kept Chris on his toes, and when we heard that there had been rain inside Alexandra Palace we were a little worried that Chris would end up testing the A8’s EasyGuard features!

I really enjoyed reading Chris’s review. Many reviews focus on technical specifications and test laptops by playing memory intensive games on them until they catch fire (or crash). Chris’s is more about how the Tecra A8 performs in real life.

How comfortable is the keyboard? How quiet are the fans? Are the volume controls placed conveniently?  Chris answers all these questions and more.

Follow this link to read his review in full. To find out more about the Hack Day hackers’ hacks, click here.

Tecra A8 ‘well designed’

Slyweezy is looking for a laptop to take to college in September so is asking for some advice from the ever-popular Notebook Review Forum.

Slyweezy is looking at laptops around the 15” size, fairly lightweight (to transport around college) and good for homework, gaming, CAD, Photoshop, web surfing and office applications. Vista is preferred and although he has a fairly large budget, he’s looking for a good deal.

Giesela has written a review of the Tecra A8 on laptopreview.org describing it as a ‘well designed, lightweight device.’ Including a 15” screen with great resolution, fast processing, good battery life and Vista amongst the list of impressive specifications, the Tecra A8 sounds like a perfect laptop for college students.
