Ant at freshplastic gets his Tecra M9 bluetooth firing on all cylinders

freshplastic.jpgA cautionary tale from one of our current favourite trialists, Ant at freshplastic.vox.com, who has been having a touch of trouble with his Bluetooth on his new Toshiba Tecra M9 laptop. After finding it difficult to suss out exactly where the Bluetooth could be located (he wasn’t one for perusing the manual), it is with great delight we can report that “got it working and didn’t even need to finish reading the manual”

So how did he figure it all out? Well, - according to Ant, he “didn’t, [he] just stumbled and got lucky!  I was looking for Windows Movie Maker (although I didn’t know that was the name of that application, but that’s another story) and just came across the Bluetooth section on the start menu just under ‘Toshiba’.” So if you’re struggling with the same problem – now you know EXACTLY where to look.

And as Ant is left to mull over the intricacies of hi problem “why hadn’t I found it earlier?  I have no idea” – we’re just pleased all is well! Looking forward to more thoughts on the notebook sir!

All-round video of the Toshiba A300

Fancy a look at the Toshiba A300? A real look that incorporates every port, socket and nook and cranny of the device? Well – take a look at this comprehensive video from the chaps at www.laptopy.net, who have provided the world with just such a film.

Mixed with the odd crazy 80’s style effect (shattering screen anyone) and some questionable lift music, this piece of cinematic work will leave you in no doubt about the shiny new A300 series. Take a look at it below, and short of actually holding the device in your hands – this has to be one of the best ways of getting a real eyeful of the notebook.

Oh, and if you’re a blogger, forum poster or have an online presence and fancy getting your hands on a Toshiba Satellite P-300 or X-200 to trial for 3 weeks, do drop us an email.

By Joeb! Toshiba Qosmio G40 laptop lands in the blogosphere for review

So one of our Qosmio G40s has landed in the blogosphere – and despite initial scepticism, its recipient Joeb over on Joeb’s Blog (which specialises in Ubuntu, Windows, Xbox 360…& Stuff) is now the proud owner (for a few weeks at least) of said laptop.

Of course, having been in possession of the computer for but 24 hours or less, he hasn’t found out too much about the general running of it just yet – but he has come up with some initial reactions to the machine, as well as treating his readers to some rather nifty pictures too.

So, to read his whole post – follow this link – and be sure to keep an eye out for any more updates. Oh, and if you blog, post in forums or are generally active in the social media, and would like to be placed on the waiting list to trial a Qosmio, or a Portégé R500 – do drop us an email.

Do you want to try a Toshiba Portégé?

The Toshiba Portégé R500 has been shouldering its way firmly into the blogosphere over the last few weeks, with a whole heap of reviews and opinion generated about the slimline notebook. As reported on Talk Toshiba itself, the 12.1” screen, and the 7-8 hours battery life have received particular plaudits from a number of bloggers – with forum posters speculating on exactly how the Portégé shapes up against the Macbook Air (rather well as it turns out).

Therefore, being a blog of the people – we’ve been chatting to Toshiba, and can proudly announce that we will soon be in the position to offer some sparkling Portégé R500 laptops for you to trial. Whether you’re having computer problems yourself and need a stand-in device, or are puzzling over whether to buy an R500 or one of its rivals – do give us a call.

All we need is for you to post your feelings about the device, be it good or bad, within Social Media space – so if you’re interested, just email us details of where you are active online (blogs, forums, twitter, pownce, facebook, YouTube – whatever) and we’ll let you know if we can help. It would be great to hear your opinion!

Also, just to whet your appetite, take a look at this trailer for the notebook itself…

Fancy bagging yourself a new laptop (for a while)?

Here at Talk Toshiba we’re always on the look out for troubled souls lost and locked out of the Social Media without a computer – and whether it be the curse of spilt carbonated drinks, or drivers just not operating as they should – we know how frustrating it can be without your trusty laptop.

Therefore, we’ve got a number of sparklingly new Toshiba Qosmio machines, which we’d be delighted to send out to any bloggers, forum users or Social Media Moguls, for you to trial for a few weeks or so. All we ask is that you use it like you would your very own, and if you like it, whether you think it’s the best machine since Kit, or just don’t get on with it, write about it and let us know what you think.

So, if you’re interested, simply send us an email with a few words to let us know why you’d like one of our laptops – and we’ll be in touch. Also, if you could include details of any blogs or communities you are active within, we’d very much appreciate it too!

Thanks a lot.

Yours for a month?

Lloyd Davis ‘gobsmacked’ by speedy Tecra A8

Despite having left his past ‘geek life’ safely behind him, Lloyd Davis couldn’t resist taking part in our Toshiba blog triallist programme. He’s been getting hands on with the Tecra A8 and has just reviewed it for his blog, Perfect Path. It’s a practical review which compares the Tecra A8 to his Toshiba Satellite and discusses its portability. Anyone wanting a review without the geek-speak should read this blog.

Lloyd found the Tecra to be compatible with everything he threw at it - installing Firefox and Audacity to name but a few things, he was even ‘gobsmacked’ at its speedy video processing. He did, however, feel that with more time he would like to install Ubuntu. As it turns out his wish has come true and the Tecra will soon be sent back to him so he can continue his experiments. So, those wishing to know what the Tecra’s really made of should keep an eye out for future posts.
