Toshiba and graphics card manufacturer Nvidia have announced plans to introduce the world’s first laptops with 3 - count them - 3, GPUs.

As this post on CCL Computers announces: “The Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706 models are the result of collaboration between the two companies and they come with a GeForce 9400M graphics processing unit (GPU) along with two of Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS enthusiast-class GPUs.”

In response to customer requests for “a high level of performance, quality and flexibility”, Carl Pinto, vice-president of product development described the move thus: “We wanted to deliver an extreme-performance gaming machine that gives gamers a complete, non-compromising system in a laptop form factor”.

While Nvidia themselves point out, the Qosmios are ideal for this setup as they give “record-breaking gaming performance”.

Can’t wait.

Die Onboard Grafik für viele Notebooks wir immer besser und ersetzt häufig aus Kosten- und Energiegründen, den Extra-Grafikchip im Notebook. Für die Spieler unter den Notebook-Besitzern ist das natürlich ein wenig ’suboptimal’, da aktuelle Spiele extreme Anforderungen an die Hardware stellen. Aber dafür gibt es ja die Qosmio X300 Serie von Toshiba, die leistungsstarke Gamernotebooks liefert.

Soweit ist das ja alles bekannt, aber was PC Games Hardware berichtet geht noch einen Schritt weiter: Drei Nvidia Graikchips im X305-Q708.

Im Kommentarbereich wird vermutet, dass der Onboard-Chipsatz für den “Office-Betrieb” gedacht ist, um dort auch gute Akkulaufzeiten zuliefern und die “Dual NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS” bei Spielen zugeschalten wird um dort ordentlich Leistung zubringen.

Allgemein scheint man bei X305-Q708 auf Technik-Kombination für beste Resultate zu setzten. Laut der Produkt-Spezifikationen ist sowohl eine 128GB SSD Platte für schnelle Zugriffszeiten, als auch eine normale Festplatte für jede Menge Speicherplatz eingebaut.

Die ganze Power ist aber auch nicht gerade günstig: 4200 Dollar kostet es zur Zeit in der USA.

Der Nachfolger des Spielernotebooks X200 wird das Toshiba Qosmio X300 bzw X305 werden, das schein fest zustehen.
Und er wird rot und feurig werden, das steht auch fest.

Eine weitere gut (englischsprachige) Seite auf die verlinkt wurde ist gizmodo.com, dort ist zu lesen, dass der Preis zwischen je nach Ausstattung zwischen 1550 und 3500 US-Dollar liegen wird.

BetaNews have written an interesting article on Toshiba’s exciting new Qosmio range, the G55, the X305 and the F55.

Notebooks that will appeal to gamers, filmmakers and users who are frequently on the go, the G55, the X305 and the F55 were announced a few days ago by Toshiba who also released details for each laptop. The G55 has “been designed specifically for multimedia enthusiasts” and uses the Cell processor that can also be found in the Sony PlayStation 3. There’s up to 500GB of storage available, plus it’s the first Toshiba laptop with an 18.4 inch screen.

The X05 is directed at serious gamers and has an NVidia GeForce 9800 GTX, up to 1GB VRAM, up to 400 GB of storage, “and a red-flamed paint exterior with Toshiba’s Fusion finish”. The F55 is for the more cost conscious, though it does have integrated GPS and Garmin software. BetaNews report that “Owners will be able to use the Garmin software and have access to points of interest without the need of an Internet connection”.
