Im Juli hatte ich schon mal über das Umwelt-Ranking von Greenpeace berichtet und jetzt gibt es eine neue Version, über die silicon.de berichtet:

Nokia, Sony Ericsson und Toshiba führen derzeit die Liste an. Toshiba hat Samsung vom dritten Platz gestoßen, das zwar bei giftigen Stoffen und bei der Energie viele Punkte sammelt aber leider nur ein schlechtes Recycling-Angebot hat.

Toshiba’s Bemühungen beim Thema Umweltschutz scheinen sich richtig bemerkbar gemacht zuhaben: Toshiba ist im Vergleich zur Juni Wertung vom Mittelfeld in die erste Reihe vor gerückt. Schaut am Besten selbst:

So begins the MSN review of this Toshiba notebook, and justifies their carefully chosen words with a graphic allusion to the “sleek latch-less design, glossy black chassis and a textured palmrest”.

Nice. But it’s not all about style over substance here, and the reviewer also seems impressed with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor “which is designed to provide powerful energy efficient performance so you can do more at once without slowing down”, not to mention “enjoying fantastic movie and game playback”. Back to our reviewer - “The elegant Aero interface with glass-like menus, live thumbnails and 3D screens you can flip through make using your PC a pleasure.” Nice to hear.

Toshiba style may be timeless, but in these days where strong individuality is key amongst almost everyone, increased customisation of one’s laptop is becoming second nature. From desktop backgrounds of favoured sports teams, models or friends – to themes, aggregated home pages and more, one way is simply not enough. And it is unsurprising that some

particularly dedicated individuals have taken the time to customise their Toshiba laptops in some breathtaking style!

Just look at what happened to Jeff’s Tecra M5 when he combined “a great graphic, a great offering, and a little adhesive”.

Or perhaps you prefer chicgeek’s starry Toshiba Satellite A100, with this deep blue design in aquamarine.

MyTego meanwhile has created this rather magnificent skin, taking something of an acid-house theme with neon blue/yellow heads on his Toshiba A-100.

We thought we’d indulge in a bit of a blast about some of the UK’s most popular Social Media meeting places today on talkToshiba – while we prepare the ground for tomorrow’s special feature, profiling one of our favourite presences out in the space.

We’ve been browsing Twitter (you can follow us there for almost instant blog updates if you so desire) and noted a couple of interesting points. Firstly, Karl Goddard who runs the Learning ICT blog, who we can only imagine has picked up perhaps a Satellite P200 and seems particularly happy with his purchase - “now playing with shiny new Toshiba laptop… monster 17″ screen, fullsize kboard im even likin Vista - but no built in web cam - pics later!”

Meanwhile, Usha Vencatachallam too has informed followers via his ‘tweetery’ that he is having fun with Toshiba too “Sony Vaio just upped and died. Toshiba is my new best friend. Making a snap laptop decision is not as bad as I imagined.” John from vivaveracruz however has managed to get his trip back in order, thanks to Toshiba and his sister-in-law. “While our return to New Mexico has been delayed because my new laptop died and needed attending to, I borrowed a fine seldom used Toshiba laptop from my sister-in-law.”

A cursory glance at Facebook reveals 1,441 Toshiba fans keen to express their opinion of the brand – and Wasim Arshad has expressed his thoughts on one model particularly. “I have had my Toshiba Equium M40X-189 laptop for around 3 years now and it has never become physically faulty! It’s brilliant!!”

Finally – does anyone run a Toshiba laptop with Linux? Zeke certainly does, and stumbled upon this fascinating article with advice on just that…

Vom 29. August bis 3. September findet die IFA in Berlin statt, aber schon jetzt gab es eine “Preview” Pressekonferenz in Berlin. Wie Damian Amherd von neuerdings.com berichtet wurde dort von Toshiba, neben Neuigkeiten beim HD-TV und den drei neuen Qosmio-Modelle (F50, G50 und X300), auch eine Umweltinitiative von Toshiba vorgestellt.

Mit der Initiative will Toshiba einen Beitrag für mehr Energieeffizienz leisten und zukünftig giftige Stoffe aus allen Produkten verbannen. Bei den Fernsehern soll die Effizienzsteigerung folgendermaßen umgesetzt werden:

“Erstens verbrauchen alle neuen Fernseher im Standby-Modus weniger als 1 Watt, zweitens sorgt ein eingebauter Lichtsensor dafür, dass das Display nur so fest beleuchtet wird wie notwendig und zuguterletzt wird fortan ein “echter” Netzschalter eingebaut, der es ermöglicht, den Fernseher auch komplett auszuschalten.” neuerdings.com

Außerdem sollen laut der Spezial-Toshiba-Website, bis 2009 schrittweise alle Teile, die Polyvinylchlorid und bromierten Flammschutzmittel enthalten durch Alternativen ersetzt werden. Dieser Schritt wird vor allem die Notebooksparte betreffen.

Eine Umweltinitiative von Toshiba gibt es schon länger, wie man in einem älteren Bericht auf magnus.de nach lesen kann.

Jetzt sollen diese Anstrengungen wahrscheinlich nochmal intensiviert werden und besonders das künftige Verbot der Zusatzstoffe stellt einen großen Schritt für das Unternehmen dar.

Mehr Informationen gibt es auf der Toshiba Website und bei Greenpeace, die eine große Untersuchung zum Thema durchgeführt haben und ständig aktualisieren und somit zum Umdenken in vielen Unternehmen beigetragen haben.

Yesterday we talked of laptops so small that one could pick them up by the fingers and virtually slip them in your pocket (you’d have to have very large pockets mind….) Today it’s back to the more sizable alternatives - ideal for those folk who enjoy a huge-old screen and fully immersing themselves within whatever their computer screen is throwing out at them.

“The Toshiba Qosmio G55 is a beast to behold. You could practically serve a meal on its 18.4-inch display, and when we tried to pick it up, it felt quite heavy, as expected. This is definitely a desktop replacement, and you might need a bigger desk” say infosyncworld.com, who go on to extol the virtues of the use of the same multimedia chip that powers the PS3, and of course – the gesture control features. 

What may be of real interest though, especially amongst those of you interested in the world of vide/multimedia-editing is this tale… “As an interesting example, our rep related an anecdote about editing a video of his daughter. First, he selected his daughter’s face from the group being filmed. Then, the laptop scanned through the remaining footage to pull out all the relevant clips where she was present. Sounds pretty cool to us.”

‘In space, no one can hear you scream’ as the saying goes, but it’s far more likely that you can hear massive alien hands tip-tip-tapping at a giant Toshiba Satellite laptop as it meanders through the dark void. That’s because the rather slick new Toshiba advert sees the aforementioned laptop have a real inter-stellar outing across the galaxy, as it gathers speed crashing through the atmosphere, creating a multi-coloured tail in its wake.

It’s all very impressively done – and I strongly advise you take a gander below, but I would suggest that next time you’re blogging outside of the earth’s stratosphere, you should be very careful with your laptop when your rocket’s burning up on the way home!

Believe it or not, talktoshiba.com is not the only place online to feast your eyes on a whole host of Toshiba information, pictures and such – and those with a toe firmly dipped into the waters of the Social Media, and a facebook account to boot, would do much worse than to follow this link. Enabling you to become a ‘fan’ of ‘Toshiba Notebook Computers’, and as with all similar groups, enabling you to post pictures, comments, discussion pieces and more – pop by and have your say with other like-minded Toshiba types.

Currently boasting a nice few pictures from the recent Work @ Play, Play @ Work event in Singapore, not to mention a whole lot of product images – there are also videos, event invitations and assorted comments about all things Toshiba.

Toshiba, 6e au dernier classement greenpeace, décroche la première place ex aequo avec Samsung, en améliorant son score sur le critère de « responsabilité individuelle du producteur » (RIP), une disposition qui prévoit que chaque entreprise prenne en charge la gestion des déchets issus de ses propres produits.

Toshiba s’en sort bien sur les autres critères de gestion des déchets. Côté produits chimiques, Toshiba s’est engagé à éliminer le PVC et les RFB de l’ensemble de sa gamme de produits d’ici 2009 et propose des modèles d’ordinateurs portables dont les circuits imprimés sont exempts de RFB, des produits certifiés EcoMark sans PVC

Puissant et doué pour le multimédia mais trop encombrant pour être nomade, le X200-20F peut faire merveille à la maison.La promesse
Le X200-20F est annoncé par Toshiba comme «le PC portable le plus puissant» il faut bien avouer que la configuration embarquée laisse rêveur, la carte graphique en tête. Le tout pour un prix finalement très correct.

La réalité

A 3,5 kg, ce X200-20F pourra facilement remplacer un ordinateur de bureau moyennant un encombrement minime et une installation beaucoup plus aisée. Côté puissance, on ne peut qu’être admiratif devant les possibilités de ce modèle Toshiba. La Geforce 8700 GT, ce qui peut se trouver de mieux dans un portable fait ici des merveilles. Vous l’aurez compris, n’importe quel jeu, aussi gourmand en ressources soit-il, tournera sans problème, d’autant que la compatibilité DirectX 10 est assurée. Autre élément qui fait de ce portable un parfait «desktop replacement», son équipement. Absolument rien ne manque. Les six ports USB, contre trois ou quatre en général sur les machines nomades, seront a priori suffisants pour accueillir tous vos périphériques sans avoir à faire de choix. Quant à la webcam 1,3 mégapixel, elle offre une grande qualité d’image, bien épaulée par un utilitaire complet et simple d’accès.

Un système sonore digne d’un kit 2.1
Le système sonore est constitué de quatre haut-parleurs et d’un caisson de basses. Ce dernier est particulièrement bluffant. Il sera aisé de sonoriser toute une pièce et, a fortiori, de savourer ses films et sa musique. La surface du touchpad est plutôt agréable et précise.

Le verdict

Ce PC portable remplit sa mission avec succès. Puissant, complet, il est aussi efficace dans les jeux 3D qu’en utilisation multimédia, où la grande dalle 17 pouces et le système sonore embarqué font merveille. De plus, l’équipement et la connectique feraient presque pâlir votre PC de bureau. Un PC de bureau qui pourrait très bien se voir remplacé par ce Satellite X200-20F. A 1599 euros, cette machine représente un très bon investissement.
