Browsing Amazon, I couldn’t help but notice this 5 star review about the Toshiba Satellite A200, and comments from Mr J Alloway regarding his first ever notebook purchase.

Taking great pleasure in the speed that he experienced with this particular notebook “Comparing this Laptop to the HP I would the say this laptop is much faster”, and the rapid internet he was able to achieve “Very fast internet, faster than the Pavilion” – he went on describe his pleasure at the sound on both this computer and its competitor.

Of course, every good thing has a downside, and he was not so sure on the “weight and the touchpad” – but quantifying his last statement with an admission that “all touchpad’s on laptops are not as good as they should be” – he summed up very positively, and with 5 gold stars.

“Overall, very fast, will do anything for your needs and you can’t go wrong.”

Product Reviews has done as its name suggests and given the Satellite L305-S5891 laptop a jolly good look, and informed readers on the findings.

So what can you expect to get from the L305-S5891? Well, there is “a powerful dual-core processor and 2GB of DDR2 system memory to help with multitasking” and “a DVD SuperMulti drive with Labelflash technology”. All impressive stuff.

The only downside they make a point of mentioning is that while the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M “will get most jobs done … it’s not ideal for gamers thanks to sharing the main system memory.” All in all though, for a laptop around the £430 mark, the Satellite L305-S5891 is definitely an option.

Er scheint schon seit langem nach einem geeigneten Notebook für sich zu suchen und hat sich jetzt schon zwei Favoriten rausgepickt.

Beide kosten 699€, aber bis jetzt hat im noch keiner geholfen bei dieser Entscheidung. Also wenn jemand eine Meinung dazu hat oder mit der Face Recognition Funktion Erfahrungen hat, dann schreibt doch bitte hier mal ins Forum. Vielen Dank!

Avec ce modèle 15 pouces, à la coque noire laquée, Toshiba démontre qu’il peut aussi fabriquer des PC portables tape-à-l’œil. Il joue même la carte de l’innovation avec un système de reconnaissance faciale qui permet de démarrer le PC en se plaçant devant l’objectif de la webcam. Passé cette fonction gadget, on retient l’équipement sans faille avec la dernière puce Intel, un Penryn à 2,2 GHz, 3 Go de mémoire vive, un disque dur de 250 Go et une Radeon Mobility avec 256 Mo dédiés pour la partie affichage.

Difficile d’ailleurs de prendre en défaut ce modèle puisque le reste est du même acabit avec un graveur de DVD double couche, un connecteur HDMI, du Wi-Fi –n ou encore une prise e-SATA pour accueillir un disque dur externe. Au final, une vraie machine polyvalente dont le look est un indéniable plus.

Toshiba lance un ordinateur ultraportable attractif au format 13.3’’ à moins de 700 euros, le Satellite U400-14P.

Ce modèle pèse 1.95 Kg avec sa batterie 6 cellules, mesure 314mm x 229mm x 27.5-35.0mm et tourne sous Windows Vista Familiale Premium avec l’intégré bureautique Works. Il est doté de la fonction de reconnaissance faciale via la webcam Toshiba Face Recognition ainsi que de la fonction USB Sleep’n’Charge qui permet de recharger un petit appareil (téléphone portable, lecteur MP3, PDA, etc.) via les ports USB du PC même si ce dernier est éteint en puisant sur sa batterie.

Le Toshiba Satellite U400-14P est un ultraportable qui offre un bon rapport configuration/prix par rapport à la concurrence et qui conviendra à un usage bureautique/internet et multimédia de base nomade

Nice. But it’s not all about style over substance here, and the reviewer also seems impressed with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor “which is designed to provide powerful energy efficient performance so you can do more at once without slowing down”, not to mention “enjoying fantastic movie and game playback”. Bei notebookjournal.de gab es in letzter Zeit immer wieder Fragen zum Toshiba Satellite U400. Zwei Besitzer des U400 haben gleich alle Fragen beantwortet und auch noch ein paar “Profi-Tipps” gegeben:

“Die Tastatur ausbauen (geht sehr leicht) und ein wenig nach innen wölben sodass eine leichte Wölbung entsteht… Damit sitzt die Tastatur viel besser -regelrecht bombenfest- auf und lässt sich nicht einbiegen.” eman

Eman ist auch sehr zufrieden mit seinem U400 und macht schon fast Werbung für den kleinen 13,3 Zoller. Er konnte auch ’sraven ‘überzeugen. Der hatte zwar erstmal richtig Pech mit den Modellen, die er bekommen hatte, jetzt scheint aber alles zu laufen.

Das Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-14M gibt es mittlerweile online schon ab 799€. Vielleicht ist es für den einen oder anderen ja genau die Alternative zwischen Netbook und normalen Notebook.

It may not be the most portable of laptops, but Stuart Waterman’s review of the Toshiba X200, which he crafted exquisitely after we sent him a notebook to trial, has proved a very interesting look at the media capabilities of the device.

A keen purveyor of music, mixing (well his housemate is at least) and videos, Stuart was keen to extol the virtues of its sonic capabilities, suggesting “the sound is great, and many a post-pub night were spent drunkenly playing hip-hop videos on YouTube with the volume cranked up”. He didn’t get around to watching movies with it but was nonetheless claimed “It’s similarly impressive when you watch longer video content”.

It’s good news for those who like to spread their musical creativity too, and Stuart reports that his “flatmate, a DJ, used it to create a new mix and was impressed with how easily it handled the process.” OK, so the touchpad was “gimmicky to the point of irritation”, but in conclusion he seemed very happy with the laptop: “All-round a pleasing experience, then - I’ll miss the X200 for the post-pub YouTube forays if nothing else. Maybe de-gimmickify the mouse pad, though.”

Matthias hat sich am Sonntag ein U400-14M gekauft und auf seinem Blog schreibt er auch warum:

Als erstes fiel mir das Design auf ‘Platingrau metallic’. Doch Design ist ja bekanntlich nicht alles die technischen Daten lesen sich genauso gut. Der ‘Intel® Core™2 Duo Mobile Processor P8400′ leistet 2,26 GHz bei einer TDP von 25W was mich ebenso beeindruckte. Das mitgelieferte Betriebssystem wird gleich durch Ubuntu “Intrepid Ibex” ersetzt.

Ob diese ‘Umoperation’ auch klappt will er nächsten Woche berichten. Er scheint aus guten Grund sehr zuversichtlich zu sein:

Wie ich in einem Forum bereits gelesen habe gab es zwar anfangs Probleme mit “Hardy Heron”, jedoch lief ab der Beta 5 von “Intrepid” dann alles absolut ohne Probleme.

Ich drück die Daumen, dass es auch so einfach klappt!

Laptops @ Welt der Technik bringt uns folgende Neuigkeiten:

Die Firma Toshiba hat den E105 Laptop ganz still und heimlich in den Handel gebracht, wobei dieser bislang nur über eine Online Bestellung erhältlich ist.

Das Ganze war wirklich still und und heimlich, den im deutschen Web ist zu dem Satellite E105 kaum etwas zu finden. Auf notebookcheck.com ist ein Newseintrag zufinden und auch auf der deutschen Toshiba Website läuft die Suche ins Leere.

Das kann aber auch daran liegen, dass es sich bei dem E105, laut laptopsarena.com, um ein Best Buy Exlusive für den US Markt handelt. Aber wer weiß vielleicht gibt es ja bald auch noch eine Variante für den deutschen Markt, den gut klingt das E105 schon. Ich sag nur 5,5 Stunden Akkulaufzeit.
